St. John’s (7-3) won it’s third game in a row on Sunday in an 84-72 victory over their rival, Syracuse (7-3). With the victory, St. John’s remained unbeaten at home this season (6-0) after defeating the Orange in front of a crowd of 13,473 in Madison Square Garden.
The Johnnies had 5 players finish in double figures. Federico Mussini led all St. John’s scorers with 17 points, including five 3-pointers. St. John’s shot 50% from beyond the arc, hitting twelve 3-pointers. This was by far their best offensive performance of the year. St. John’s included everybody in the offense as they had 22 assists in the game. Amar Alibegovic provided a spark off the bench, scoring 15 points, shooting 5-6 from the field and secured a team-high 9 rebounds.
This was a very convincing win for coach Chris Mullen and his team. The team struggled early in the season, possibly due to the new coach. But over the past few games, the players seem to feel more and more comfortable with Mullen as head coach, winning their last 3 games. The Red Storm look to win their 7th in a row at home and 4th in a row overall on Friday when they take on Incarnate Word (3-4).
