Fairfield, Conn -A season high 7 goals led the Pioneers to a big 7-4 win
against the Huskies of UConn at the XL Center in Hartford.
It only took the Pio’s just 30 seconds to put two in the UConn net, with goals
scored by Junior Justin Danforth and Senior Zach Luczyk. Uconn put one on the board at 15:00 to make it 2-1, but that effort wouldn’t last long. With 11:10 still left in the first period, Danforth took advantage again, this time creating a turnover at center ice, and ripping one top shelf for a shorthanded goal. On yet another power play for the UCONN, the Huskies found the back of the net, bringing it back to a one goal game at 3-2 SHU.
SHU’s defense in the second period was on point, holding the UCONN offense to only two shots on goal. SHU then took a 6-3 lead into the 3rd period, before Captain Mitch Nylen nets his 3rd goal of the year, scoring off of a wide open net on a feed from Zach Luczyk. Goalie Brett Magnus notches 21 saves on the night, which was more than enough to get the Pio’s the win with how well the offense played.
Stellar play by all move the Pioneers to move 10-13-3 on the year, after falling to RIT in the previous series. Pioneers next play at Bentley on January 29th.
