Some people don’t realize how significant this was. This was the USA’s bitter rival. This was the USSR, a dominant force on the ice with the best players in the world. And here was the USA, a bunch of twenty-somethings trying to make history at Lake Placid. This game  took place 36 years ago today and a chill goes up and down my spine each time I hear the iconic Al Michaels call. The US would go on to beat Finland in the gold medal game that year.
